The University partnered with local nonprofits to identify community needs, and students were placed at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Mobile Health Clinic, The Community Care Center, The Forsyth County Department of Public Health, The Shalom Project Medical Clinic, The Twin City Harm Reduction Collective, Cancer Services and Crisis Control Ministry. Wake Forest was selected to be part of the first wave of nationwide grantees. It’s a historic partnership between AmeriCorps and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For more than 10 years, the Magnolia Scholars program has provided scholarships, academic support, study abroad opportunities and counseling for first-generation students. Wake Forest has well-established programs for recruiting first-generation students and helping them thrive once they arrive on campus. Launching this fall, the new Early Action plan will allow first-generation applicants who apply through this plan to learn of their admission decision early in the process – by January 15, while retaining their ability to consider other offers of admission and financial aid options before making a final decision. ![]() The University will offer an Early Action option specifically for #FirstGen students to provide an additional pathway of opportunity. School principals may establish rules for foods and beverages brought from home for classroom events or parties during the school day or for extracurricular activities after the school day.Wake Forest University is launching an initiative to further lower barriers to undergraduate admission for first-generation college students. Fundraising activities that involve the sale of foods and/or beverages to students during the school day must comply with the Smart Snacks Rules and may not be conducted until thirty minutes after the school day is over. In the event that competitive sales occur, all proceeds will be turned over to the Child Nutrition Program. No competitive foods may be available to students during this time. All extra purchases require funds to be available (on meal account or in hand) at the time of purchase.Ĭompetitive foods: The school day is defined as the period from the midnight before to 30 minutes after the end of the official school day. Retail Pricing: Additional items from the daily menu, as well as selected other foods and beverages that comply with the USDA Smart Snack guidelines may be purchased at retail price to compliment school meals or meals brought from home. Sufficient funds must be available on an adult account or in hand at time of purchase. ![]()
